La Grave La Meije, is a unique ski area with wild skiing and some huge descents. Here is one of those must-see, must-ski world destinations. For many years La Grave-La Meije has been attracting worldwide visitors with its beauty, its snow quality, and its unsurpassed off-piste terrain. With 2150m of vertical drop, La Grave-La Meije offers some of Europe’s best ski descents.

In 30 minutes, the La Meije Glaciers cable-car (le téléphérique) brings you to the Ruillans Pass (Col des Ruillans), a high altitude paradise at 3200m. From here the Trifides draglift (téléskis des Trifides) or the Dôme de la Lauze draglift (téléskis du Dôme de la Lauze) can take you even higher to 3550m, where you’ll find the only two marked runs and the access point for the 2 Alpes ski area.

La Grave / La Meije belongs to the privileged circle of original ski resorts in the world of skiing. From the top lift (t-bar) at 3600m one descends freely the 2150 m vertical drop of the Vallons de la Meije in an abundance of fresh, un-groomed snow. In parallel with the adventurous skiing on the north face of the Meije, the areas of Le Chazelet and Villar d'Arène are ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers. Enjoy the magnificent scenery of the Oisans mountain range while skiing in safety on green, blue and red pistes. La Grave is also well known in the world of ice climbing, listing more than 130 different routes in its directories.

Are you looking for peace and quiet, a bit of nature, a different kind of skiing? Get a pair of classic or skating cross-country skis and head towards Villar d'Arène and the Arsine valley. Nestling in the bottom of this hidden valley, at the entrance to the Ecrins National Park, are 20km of groomed pistes for all abilities and cross-country styles. You can start either from Villar d'Arène itself or near the Pas de l'Ane gîte or you might like to have a rest stop here on your way back. This is the antithesis of the bustling plateau ski areas, and here peace and quiet are the order of the day, all under the benevolent watch of the Agneaux and the Combeynot peaks.
And try not disturb the protected wildlife, if you are lucky enough to catch a glimpse of them when you set out early.
The cross-country track is pisted between Christmas and Easter, depending on the snow cover. There is also a 7km marked snow-shoe track.
